There are dozens of excellent cafes and fast food outlets in Whitby but here are the ones we like:
The Quayside Restaurant on Pier Road is a multi award winning fish and chip restaurant which also provides a take away service. The Quayside has just been named in the top three chip shops in the country and serves outstanding food!
Monks Haven Café is situated on Church Street in one of the oldest buildings in Whitby, dating from the 12th century. They serve teas, coffees, sandwiches, toasties and filled jacket potatoes as well as delicious scones, muffins and tea-cakes. It is the ideal place to enjoy a morning snack or afternoon tea and watch the world go by!
The Humble Pie Shop is housed in a 16th century cottage and serves delicious fresh home made pies and mash. The choice includes a vegetarian option and you can eat in or take away.Just cross the swing bridge, follow the road round to the right and your there!
Fusco's Royal Fisheries is an award winning fish & chip shop serving wonderful food. Along a quaint street seconds from the town centre there is also an eat in restaurant. Visit their website for precise directions. You can't go wrong at Fusco's.
Marie Antoinette’s is a Patisserie in Whitby’s beautiful church street. Head up the old cobbled street towards the 199 steps and you can't miss it; they sell excellent homemade cakes, cream teas, fresh filled baguettes and beverages.
Ming's Palace Chinese restaurant and takeaway produces super food and we personally recommend the Singapore chow mein! Conveniently situated opposite the railway station, Ming's Palace also offers a free home delivery service for orders over ten pounds. Tel: 01947 820632.
The Jet Workers Tea Rooms have just opened and are situated at the base of the 199 Abbey Steps, directly above Hamond's jet shop. They offer a haven for both Whitby visitors and locals above the bustle of the busy street. Sample their modern versions of traditional ranges, including cream teas, cheese boards and delicious lunches.
Mr Chips fish restaurant and takeaway was described in the Mail on Sunday as"One of the best fish and chip restaurants in the UK". Just over the swing bridge, the recently renovated restaurant is close to the town centre and well worth a visit.
