Clipper Ocean Race

As in 2015, the United kingdom will host the start and finish of the next Clipper round the world yacht race, which will start in October 2017. The competitors will cover more than 40,000 miles and visit 8 ports on six continents in the world's longest ocean race, before finally returning to Londonderry in July 2018.
The competition, which is held every two years, was founded in 1996 by Robin Knox-Johnston, who in 1968 became the first person to sail solo nonstop around the world. It aims to offer amateurs from all walks of life the chance to experience the thrill of ocean racing and to make a circumnavigation of the globe. Up to 650 international crew members will be takong part in the race.
The event will be held using the third generation Clipper 70 ocean racing yachts which proved very durable in the last race. click on the link above for the full boat specification and interactive illustrations.
